W Benedict XVI Pope Emeritus of the Catholic Church
Our first week back after half term has certainly been an eventful one for us as Catholics. Benedict XVI – our Pope since 2005 became the first Pope to resign in 600 years. This is a historic occasion for us all and one which certainly gained the children’s curiosity and interest. Staff and children marked Thursday 28 February – Benedict’s last day as Pontiff, with a prayerful gathering in the hall to reflect on this momentous occasion for the Catholic Church. We gave thanks for Pope Emeritus and prayed for the Conclave of Cardinal Electors who have an important decision ahead of them. L School Hall
This week we came back to a freshly painted school hall. A big thank you to Mr Brohan, who spent half term painting the ceiling, walls and pillars. This has made the hall bright and welcoming for everyone. E Parent Consultations for Year 5
Next Monday 4th March Miss Martin will be carrying parent consultations for half of the Year 5 Parents. Appointments are from 4pm to 7pm. T Reception Trips and Visits
The Reception Classes have been busy recently. Reception Red visited the local Fire Station and are now very knowledgeable about what to do in the event of a fire. Reception Blue visited the local post office. They spent this week writing T Both classes visited our neighbours at Akiva School. They were invited to enjoy their celebrations for Purim. The children had a lovely time listening to the story of Purim.
A note from Mr Sweetingham - Netball
E This week the St. Theresa’s netball team visited Trent Primary School in Cockfosters. It was only our second league match of the campaign as the weather has played havoc with the fixtures list. Our netball team were fantastic! They displayed excellent teamwork and netball skills and romped home with a
convincing 12 – 2 win! All the children displayed brilliant sportsmanship and at
the end of the game St. Theresa’s cheered, clapped and shook hands with the
opposing team. Our next match is at Holy Trinity next week.
Football
Good luck to the football team who are playing Monkfrith Primary School tonight.
A note from Mr Sweetingham – Red Nose Day – Friday 15th March
Red noses went on sale at school this week, and within a matter of days they had
all sold out! It just shows how generous and supportive the children and parents of St. Theresa’s are. Sorry if you did not manage to buy a red nose from school but if you still want one they are on sale at Sainsburys. The children can wear their red noses with any other items of red clothing on Friday 15th March (Red Nose Day) for St. Theresa’s £1 Red Mufti Day in support of Comic Relief.
Lenten Liturgies
This half term the children will be gathering in small groups to take part in Lenten Liturgies. This is a time to reflect on the meaning of Lent and to prepare ourselves for the risen Christ. Sr Jenny will also be organizing Reconciliation for Year 3 to Year 6. The date has yet to be confirmed.
Visit from Hindleap Instructor
James from Hindleap came to school this week to visit the Year 5 children and
their parents to give a talk on what to expect on their week away. The children will have the opportunity to go for a forest walk, take part in archery, orienteering and work together to solve problems. An exciting week ahead of them! Mr Sweetingham, Miss Martin and Mrs Sweeny will be accompanying the children on their trip.
Car Park Entrance
Please do not use the car park to turn your vehicle around in. A parent prevented
staff from getting into the car park this week as they had blocked the entrance to
drop their child off at Breakfast Club. Please be considerate of everyone.
Friends
A big thank you to everyone who attended the Friends AGM on Friday 15th
February 2013. This was a huge success and was very well supported by Parents and Grandparents who were kind enough to give us their time. We have a new Friends Committee who met this week and have decided to start off their Fund raising with an Infant Film Night. Please see the Friends Flier attached.
Friends Help Attached Form
If you are able to give just an hour to support in any of the forth coming eevents such us Film nights, Summer Fair and Family BBQ please complete the form attached and hand in to the school office. Many thanks.
