Make sure appropriate and complete documentation is submitted as specified on
the check sheet on the information letter. I am communicating with clinical facilities
NOW and must have your required documentation to submit your name in a clinical
group. If your requirements are not in, you will not be placed in a clinical group. REGISTER FOR THE SECTION OF NET 2410 WHERE YOU PLAN TO ATTEND

COURSE CALENDAR AND SYLLABUS
There will be a few changes to the course calendar (that really will not affect your
week to week schedule). There are also changes being made to the syl abus. Expect
to receive an updated calendar and syllabus in about two weeks. You should be
checking your Motlow (not D2L) email account for information from the college
AND me! You will receive your syllabus and clinical and lab assignments from me as
email attachments in your Motlow email account. LAB PRACTICE FOR CLINICAL SIMULATIONS
The labs are set up on all three campuses to allow you opportunity to practice
previously learned skills. There is equipment available in each lab to allow you to
practice the skills specified in the information letter. When you practice, BE SURE
WHAT DO I PRACTICE?
Some examples of skills to practice are attached. Remember, Clinical Simulations
are NOT check offs. They are situations you will receive in which you will problem
solve and perform a skill for your “patient”. You also need to know how to
document appropriately. Medications:
When mixing two medications to one syringe, each lab has various types of insulin
that you can mix. Look carefully at insulin when you prepare it!
There is also Demerol and Phenergan that you can mix for an IM injection.
Use the following dosages to practice: Demerol 50mg/ Phenergan 25mg IM every 6 hours prn pain
How should your prepare this dosage? What size needle would you use? Can you
identify landmarks for an IM injection? Humulin (or Novolin) Regular Insulin 8 units Humulin (or Novolin) NPH insulin
20 units subcutaneously.

are appropriate for this type of injection? Prepare an IM dose of Benedryl, antibiotic, or Demerol for a young child.

Be able to perform a sterile dressing change for a wound that must be packed
(either strips or wet to dry)/ a wound requiring a culture/ a wound with a drain. NG/ Suction
Be able to set up and test wall suction. Insert an NG tube and check for placement.
DC and NG tube appropriately. Urinary Catheterization
Be able to insert either a straight cath for C/S or an indwelling foley for either a man
